Co-Directors
Prof Stuart Macdonald is based at the College of Law and Criminology, Swansea University. He is co-director of the University’s £7.6m EPSRC CHERISH- Digital Economy Centre (www.cherish-de.uk) and the multidisciplinary Cyberterrorism Project (www.cyberterrorism-project.org). He has previously received research funding from the British Academy and NATO’s Emerging Security Challenges Division, and has held visiting scholarships at Columbia University Law School, New York, the Institute of Criminology at the University of Sydney and the Faculté de Droit, Université de Grenoble. In 2016/17 he will be the holder of a Fulbright Cyber Security Award.
Prof Maura Conway (Dublin City University) is Senior Lecturer in International Security in the School of Law and Government at Dublin City University (DCU) in Dublin, Ireland and Coordinator of VOX-Pol, a EU-funded project on violent online political extremism (voxpol.eu). Dr. Conway’s principal research interests are in the area of terrorism and the Internet, including academic and media discourses on cyberterrorism, the functioning and effectiveness of violent political extremist online content, and violent online radicalisation. She is the author of over 40 articles and chapters in her specialist area(s). Her research has appeared in, amongst others, Current History, Media, War & Conflict, Parliamentary Affairs, and Social Science Computer Review. She has presented her findings before the United Nations in New York, the Commission of the European Union in Brussels, the Club de Madrid, and elsewhere.
