The International Studies Association (ISA) Junior Scholar Meeting is a facilitated meet and greet where established academics engage with early career scholars. These Junior Scholars range from current PhD students to recent Post-Doctorates.
Prof Maura Conway, Professor of International Security in the School of Law and Government at Dublin City University and Coordinator of the VOX-Pol Network of Excellence, will be involved with the ISA Junior Scholars Meeting as one of the established Senior Scholars. Joining her will be colleagues J.P. Singh, Marianne Franklin, Derrick L. Cogburn, and others.
Organised by Leonie M. Tanzcer, a PhD candidate at Queens University Belfast, the 2017 ISA annual convention will be held on 22 February 2017, in Baltimore, Maryland, USA.
The purpose of the Junior Scholar Meeting is to lower the entry barrier to ISA and the whole academic community for PhD students and early career researchers, to facilitate a networking process in a structured and supportive environment, and to foster knowledge exchange between early career and senior scholars who work on similar research topics.
The meeting is also an opportunity to receive peer-reviewed feedback under the supervision of an established academic and to talk about various career-related issues with a scholar who has been in the early career scholars research field for years. The meeting should be thought of as a space to air the ideas, thoughts, and concerns of early career researchers.
Applicants do not need to be members of either ISA’s STAIR or ICOMM sections to be eligible to participate, but their research interests should be related in some way to the focus of at least one of the senior scholars participating in the event.
The application deadline is 7 December 2016. Further information and the application form itself can be found here.
