VOX-Pol Fellows Reem Ahmed and Daniela Pisoiu published ‘Uniting the Far Right: How the Far-Right Extremist, New Right, and Populist Frames Overlap on Twitter – A German Case Study‘ in the journal European Societies. The paper expands on their research published by VOX-Pol on How Extreme is the European Far Right?, which is available open access in both English and German.

Today, Tuesday, 1 December, the International Centre for Counter Terrorism – The Hague (ICCT) and the RESOLVE Network are co-hosting an online Live Briefing via Zoom titled ‘Back to the Future: The Historical Roots of Far-right Violence’

The briefing will be moderated by VOX-Pol Researcher Dr. Elizabeth Pearson, and participating in the discussion is VOX-Pol and ICCT Fellow J.M. Berger, and Dr. Donald Holbrook of University College London and ICCT.

VOX-Pol Coordinator, Prof. Maura Conway, will be presenting at AVERT’s (Addressing Violent Extremism and Radicalisation to Terrorism) International Speaker Series on Wednesday, 9 December, 2020.

The talk is titled ‘Determining the Role of the Internet in Right-wing Extremism and Terrorism: Nine Suggestions for Progressing Research’. In 2016, Maura Conway’s article Determining the Role of the Internet in Violent Extremism and Terrorism: Six Suggestions for Progressing Research appeared in Studies in Conflict & Terrorism. It’s now the third most read article in the journal’s 40-year history. That article, if not wholly explicitly, was certainly implicitly focused on so-called ‘Islamic State’s’ online activity. In her presentation, she will re-work her ‘Six Suggestions’ with a focus on the role of the Net in right-wing extremism and terrorism. In addition to her calls for widening, comparing, deepening, up-scaling, outreaching, and gendering, she’s also got three new suggestions regarding visuals, platforms, and ethics.
