Zahid Shahab Ahmed
Zahid Shahab Ahmedis an Associate Professor at the UAE’s National Defence College in Abu Dhabi. Before that, he was based at Deakin University’s Alfred Deakin Institute for Citizenship and Globalisation in Melbourne, Australia, where is still an honorary fellow. During 2013-16, he was an Assistant Professor at the Centre for International Peace and Stability, National University of Sciences and Technology in Pakistan. He earned his Ph.D. from University of New England in Australia, and M.A. from United Nations mandated University for Peace in Costa Rica. His focuses on causes and consequences of radicalisation, extremism, and terrorism, and he has published in prominent peer reviewed journals like Civil Wars, Dynamics of Asymmetric Conflict, Global Policy, and Conflict, Security & Development. He is also a co-editor of Religion, Extremism and Violence in South Asia(Palgrave, 2022). As a practitioner in preventing violent extremism through education, Dr. Ahmed has an ongoing collaboration with Hedayah, and previously has led projects in Central, South and Southeast Asia in collaboration with the United States Institute of Peace, UNESCO, USAID, and Peace Direct.
