The VOX-Pol Blog Editorial Team

The VOX-Pol Blog publishes weekly on Wednesdays on the topic of online extremism and online terrorism. It began in 2014 and now has over 500 entries. Each Blog post is added into the VOX-Pol Online Library so it’s searchable by title, topic and author.

The Blog publishes original research, article summaries, book reviews, editorials, and cross-posts. It is managed by the Blog Editorial team, who are members of the VOX-Pol Network.

CURRENT EDITORS

Dr Katy Vaughan (2025-2026)

Katy Vaughan is a Senior Lecturer in Swansea University’s School of Law. She is a member of the Cyber Threats Research Centre, the VOX-Pol Network, and the Christchurch Call Advisory Network, which she also co-Chaired for 3 years. Her current research focuses on counterterrorism law and policy and the impact of this on the protection and promotion of human rights, emphasising the importance to an effective counterterrorism strategy of respect for human rights.

Catherine Girard (2025-2026)

Catherine Girard is a PhD candidate in Political Science at Masaryk University in the Czech Republic, specializing in Security and Strategic Studies. Her research focuses on the far right and lies at the nexus of gender, radicalization, and extremism. Much of her work examines the role of women in far-right movements, as well as how various far-right actors mobilize across mainstream and alternative digital platforms.

FORMER EDITORS

Dr. Amy-Louise Watkin (2022-2025)

Amy-Louise Watkin is a lecturer of Criminology and Criminal Justice at the University of the West of Scotland. Amy-Louise spent three years running the VOX-Pol blog and now assists in the running of the VOX-Pol Next Gen Network. Amy-Louise’s research interests lie in online extremist and terrorist content and the regulation of such content.

Jonathan Collins (2022-2025)

Jonathan Collins is a PhD candidate at the Department of International Relations at Charles University, concentrating on the rise of the Far-Right as both a social movement and threat for violent mobilization. Specifically, he aims to connect the current political, social, and economic grievances arising from the ongoing pandemic with the discursive recruitment and dissemination practices of the Far-Right. His other areas of interest include more broadly Radicalization, Terrorism, Conspiracies, and Online Extremism. Jonathan runs the VOX-Pol Next Gen Network.

Dr. Ryan Scrivens (2022-2025)

Ryan Scrivens is an Associate Professor in the School of Criminal Justice at Michigan State University (MSU). He is also an Associate Director at the International CyberCrime Research Centre (ICCRC) at Simon Fraser University (SFU) in Canada and a Research Fellow at the VOX-Pol Network .  Ryan conducts problem-oriented interdisciplinary research with a focus on terrorists’ and extremists’ use of the Internet, right-wing terrorism and extremism, and hate crime.
