Moign Khawaja

Dr. Moign Khawaja is a Lecturer and Researcher in International Relations and Security Studies at Dublin City University. He was awarded the prestigious Government of Ireland Irish Research Council Postdoctoral Fellowship for 2023-2024 and has secured multiple research grants, including funding for projects commissioned by the UK Home Office.

Dr. Khawaja holds a PhD in Counterterrorism and Media Communication Studies from Dublin City University, supervised by renowned terrorism expert Professor Maura Conway, and a Master of Arts in Journalism from the University of Lincoln. His doctoral research examined Islamic State’s visual propaganda performances of modern stateness.

He is the author of Islamic State, Media and Propaganda: Performances of the ‘Visual Caliphate’ (Edward Elgar Publishing, 2025) and has published extensively in leading journals including Studies in Conflict & Terrorism. Dr. Khawaja regularly engages with media as an expert commentator, contributing to The Conversation, RTÉ Brainstorm, and being quoted in The Sunday Times on terrorism and security matters. He also serves as Adjunct Lecturer at Maynooth University, teaching Irish Naval Service and Defence Forces cadets on peace and security issues.
