Python for Social Scientists
Prof. Padraig Cunningham (University College Dublin)
NB: Important Notes
Workshop attendance is free but general conference registration is required.
This workshop will run concurrently with other morning sessions.
This workshop will provide an introduction to Python and Python Notebooks for Social Scientists. At the end of the workshop participants will have a basic understanding of the fundamentals of Python and will be able to manipulate numeric and text data in Python. The workshop will have a practical focus – participants will develop and extend a number of Python Notebooks during the workshop.
The workshop will first provide an introduction to the Python language and Python User Interface. It will then focus on using IPython Notebooks for data preparation and data analysis, including the analysis of numeric and text datasets..
Participants will need to bring a laptop with Python (version 3.5) / Anaconda installed. The material will be presented through IPython Notebooks, so participants should already be able to run a simple notebook.
The afternoon workshop on Social Network Analysis builds on this workshop. Details can be found here.
