You are invited to the online launch of VOX-Pol’s latest publication, titled Online Extremism and Terrorism Researchers’ Security, Safety, and Resilience: Findings from the Field, on Monday, 6 March, 2023 at 18:00 (UK time).
At the online event, the report’s lead author Elizabeth Pearson will introduce the report. Jacob Davey, Head of Research & Policy for Far-right and Hate Movements at at Institute for Strategic Dialogue, and Meili Criezis, Graduate Fellow at the Polarization and Extremism Research and Innovation Lab, at American University, will offer their reflections on the research and their own experiences on this topic. This will be followed by a 15 minute Q&A. Swansea University’s Joe Whittaker will chair the online event.
The report, authored by Elizabeth Pearson, Joe Whittaker, Till Baaken, Sara Zeiger, Farangiz Atamuradova, and Maura Conway presents findings from the REASSURE (Researcher, Security, Safety, and Resilience) project’s in-depth interviews with 39 online extremism and terrorism researchers. It catalogues for the first time the range of harms they have experienced, the lack of formalised systems of care or training, and their reliance therefore on informal support networks to mitigate those harms.
The report will be published free-to-access at 10:00 on Tuesday 7 March on the VOX-Pol Publications page.
