‘Terrorism Informatics’ is a four-part Blog post series published by VOX-Pol in March 2021. The series covers A Framework for Researchers, Identifying Extremist Networks, Analysing Extremist Content, and Predicting Extremist Behaviour.
In the webinar, author Matti Pohjonen and Eugenia Siapera, UCD Professor of Information and Communication Studies, will discuss the topic of ‘Terrorism Informatics’ and how researchers can ethically engage in these kinds of analyses.

PANELIST BIOGRAPHIES
Matti Pohjonen is a Researcher for a Finnish Academy-funded project on Digital Media Platforms and Social Accountability (MAPS) as well as a VOX-Pol Fellow. He works at the intersection of digital anthropology, philosophy and data science. Previously he was a Lecturer in Global Digital Media at the School of Oriental and African Studies, University of London. On Twitter @objetpetitm.
Eugenia Siapera is Professor of Information and Communication Studies and head of the ICS School at UCD. Prior to this, she has held positions at DCU, Aristotle University, Greece, University of Leicester, UK and University of Amsterdam, NL. Her research interests are in the area of digital and social media, political communication and journalism. She has recently completed an IRC-funded project on racist hate speech in the Irish digital sphere, and is also working on a project on the digital memory of conflict (RePAST) funded by the European Commission. Maura Conway (co-host) is Professor in Cyber Threats in Swansea University School of Law, Professor of International Security in the School of Law and Government at Dublin City University, and Coordinator of VOX-Pol, a EU-funded project on violent online political extremism (voxpol.eu). Prof. Conway’s principal research interests are in the area of terrorism and the Internet, including cyberterrorism, the functioning and effectiveness of violent political extremist online content, and violent online radicalisation.
