Carlos Eduardo Barros
PhD Candidate in Information Science at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ) and the Brazilian Institute of Information Science and Technology (IBICT). His research focuses on online disinformation ecosystems in Brazil, particularly the discrediting of science, socio-environmental conspiracies, and their intersections with extremism. He is a researcher and project coordinator at NetLab, UFRJ’s Laboratory for Internet and Social Media Studies, which he helped to establish, working with interdisciplinary teams of social and computer scientists to produce evidence with social impact for citizens, organizations, companies, and governments. He has taught undergraduate courses at UFRJ, as well as in independent courses and workshops in Brazil and Europe. His research interests include digital methods, the technopolitics of communication, the social and cultural implications of online recommender systems, computational advertising, and the sociology of social networks.
