Lydia Khalil

Lydia Khalil is a Senior Research Fellow at the Alfred Deakin Institute at Deakin University, Convenor of the AVERT (Addressing Violent Extremism and Radicalisation to Terrorism) Research Network and Project Director, Transnational Challenges Program, Lowy Institute. Lydia has spent her career focusing on the intersection between governance, technology and security. She has a broad range of policy, research and private sector experience and has a professional background in international relations, national security and strategic intelligence analysis, with a particular focus on democracy, extremism and political violence.  Lydia has held a number of senior US government advisory roles and academic positions and is an editorial board member of Studies in Conflict and Terrorism.  She holds a BA in International Relations from Boston College and a Masters in International Security from Georgetown University.
