In the past few weeks, VOX-Pol’s coordinator, Professor Maura Conway, has featured in two podcasts.
In the Combating Jihadist Terror podcast, Prof Conway and Dr Anthony Richards, Senior Lecturer in Criminology at Royal Holloway, examine to what extent academics and policymakers should be using the term ‘cyberterrorism’, how to further research into online extremism, as well as how gender should be used within academic discussions on extremism. The podcast is available to listen or watch on the CoJiT website, as well as on Apple Podcasts, Spotify and their Youtube Channel.
Earlier in March, Prof Conway appeared alongside Dr Ryan Scrivens in the second series of the Tech Against Terrorism podcast, in an episode titled Understanding Online Radicalisation. Dr Scrivens is an Associate Director at the International CyberCrime Research Centre at Simon Fraser University in Canada and a Research Fellow at VOX-Pol. The discussion was led by Anne Craanen and covered what radicalisation is, debunked some of the myths surrounding it, and explored how the online and offline worlds interact in radicalising an individual.
