Workshop Descriptor
This workshop will provide an introduction to Python and Python Notebooks for Social Scientists. At the end of the workshop participants will have a basic understanding of the fundamentals of Python and will be able to manipulate numeric and text data in Python. The workshop will have a practical focus – participants will develop and extend a number of Python Notebooks during the workshop.
Format
The workshop will be divided into two sessions:
Morning Session: The morning session will provide an introduction to the Python language and Python.
Afternoon Session: The second session will focus on using IPython Notebooks for data preparation and data analysis. The work will consider the analysis of two datasets a numeric dataset and a text dataset.
Requirements
Participants will need to bring a laptop with Python (version 3.5) / Anaconda installed. The material will be presented through IPython Notebooks, so participants should already be able to run a simple notebook.
