VOX-Pol is contributing to the EU Internet Forum’s Civil Society Empowerment Programme (CSEP) inaugural campaigns event in Brussels on 30 and 31 January 2019.
Since December 2018, and as part of the EU Internet Forum, the European Commission funds campaign projects to promote alternative narratives and empower credible voices. Under the Civil Society Empowerment Programme, the campaigns are expected to contribute to the prevention of radicalisation towards violent extremism. The aim of the CSEP campaigns event is to help the projects getting started, to learn from each other, and provide project partners with insights on effective campaigning.
VOX-Pol Coordinator Professor Maura Conway is giving an opening keynote address titled Online Extremism Today Who, What, When, Where, and Why on Day 1 of the meeting.
On Day 2, the Oxford Internet Institute and VOX-Pol’s Bharath Ganesh will deliver a workshop on ‘Using Insights from Research to Counter Extremism Online,’ which will include consideration of formal and informal counter narrative approaches to guide the development of participants’ projects.
Other contributors are from Breakthrough Media, the European Strategic Communication Network (ESCN), Google/YouTube, Greenpeace, and Twitter.
