On 29 – 31 March VOX-Pol’s and CEU’s Kate Coyer will be participating in RightsCon Brussels 2017.
On Thursday 30 March Dr. Coyer will participate in the GFMD meeting on Universal Do-No-Harm Principles and Best Practices for PVE/CVE and Counter- Propaganda. This meeting will be moderated by Principal Adviser to the OSCE Representative on Freedom of the Media Dr. Joan Barata Mir. More info on the meeting is available here
On Friday 31 March Dr. Coyer is presenting on a panel titled Trump, Brexit and the Future of Digital Rights. Dr. Coyer will present VOX-Pol work regarding the challenges of social media moderating violent extremist content online in the context of media development and the digital rights agenda. The question posed by the presentation will be how can these movements be more involved in confronting challenges posed by extremism online. More info on the panel can be found here
Dr. Coyer was also recently interviewed by Elizabeth Weise for a piece in USA Today titled ‘Terrorists Use the Dark Web to Hide.’ Dr. Coyer spoke about the normality of ISIS’s communication tactics: “Like any organisation that had a message and an outreach objective, they use multimedia formats and a wide variety of spaces.
